SCHIOPPETTINO VILLA RUBINI Wine

Schioppettino is a wine typical of the Cividale area and derived from Ribolla Nera (Black Ribolla), an indigenous variety planted on hilly land of the Friuli region. Schioppettino was once called Pokelza. Both names mean ‘small bang’ due to the pressure in the bottle derived from secondary fermentation of residual sugar.

SCHIOPPETTINO VILLA RUBINI
D.O.C. COLLI ORIENTALI DEL FRIULI
Until some years ago Schioppettino was strictly a local wine Friulians drank young. Now it is a wine that ages very well.
The wine is aged for a minimum period of 12 months in barriques and in 20 years old chestnut casks the Rubini family use exclusively for Schioppettino aging.
Schioppettino has an intensely ruby red colour with purple glints. The smell is distinctive of the varietal, slightly herbaceous with raspberry aromas and a characteristic green peppercorn scent.
The taste is dry, smooth, full bodied with elegant soft fruits flavours and fragrance; its slight herbaceousness is mellowed by liquorice and lingering vanilla tones. Schioppettino finishes with a long persistent green peppercorns back palate taste.
