Fincas Rewen has been the most awarded winery of the past year. Its star vines are Petit Verdot and Syrah, both winners of Wine of the Year, given by the World Association Wine & Spirits Writers and Journalist, making them one of the best in the world.
Rewen is an excellent example of how wineries in San Juan are breaking through international markets, making these regions competent at maximum qualities and production. Petit Verdot variety is being considered as one of the favourites among young and sophisticated palates.
Its Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot can now be read about in the annual book edited by the competition "Vinalies of France" and at the 8th edition of Finger Lakes International Wine Competition of New York held recently, they received five silver medals, awarded to the Petit Verdot 2007, Cabernet Sauvignon 2007, Syrah 2007, Malbec Premium 2006 and Cabernet Sauvignon Premium 2005.
Finca Rewen has an annual produce of 500.000 bottles per year from nine different wines:
Today, Fincas Rewen has a wine-making process of three varieties of wine: high quality range (Premium) that includes Petit Verdot, Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon. A range with pure varietal Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Viognier and a bi-varietal range that mixes Syrah/Cabernet Sauvignon.
Fincas Rewen owns 160 hectares of excellent land in the south part of the province of San Juan, 60 of which are sectioned for varietals Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Syrah, Viognier and Chardonnay. The vineyards are situated 7 Km from Ca�ada Honda, in the area of Huanacache, that has an altitude between 550 and 600 meters above sea level. The vineyard's location is near the foothills of the Andes, which has scarcity of water and a continental climate. This region has ideal characteristics for the produce of certain varieties and its climate is limpid, not contaminated and with the healthiness of its soil that is exceptional, thanks to the Andes and the Lagoons that were there previously it reaches outstanding conditions
These vineyards, planted in 1999, have grown and achieved exceptional grape in the past 10 years becoming a success in 2008. The owners made sure they produced an exquisite wine, before it entered the market.
Finca Rewen's Signature Wines:
Petit Verdot
It was always thought that the variety Petit Verdot had to be used to improve the qualities, by cuts or "blends", of the varietals Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot (mainly from France), without talking into account the fact that this variety by its self in some areas, could produce a great wine with noticeable properties. Since it takes longer to mature, it needs a climate that is ideally found in San Juan, Argentina. Its variety allows a produce of deep, dark and shiny red wines. To the nose it is fruity and spicy with scents of shavings from bananas and Wood, balsamic tones (mint, eucalyptus, camphor and liquorice) peppers, cloves and black pepper. To the mouth, wines from Petit Verdot have a very balanced acidity with equal tannins. It acquires deep purple tones during its ripening. Everything indicates that the conditions found in San Juan are optimum for the Petit Verdot to reach its elegance and complexity, making it one of the most significant wines of the Rewen vineyards.
Syrah
This variety began in Argentina in 1874. The area of San Juan has specialized in this variety, giving it a recognition world wide and making it influential. The international growth of this variety is evident, making Syrah from Argentina, especially from San Juan the most though for world wide for its optimum quality. It offers you a wine with great body that matures quickly in bottle, owning an intense violet colour, almost black with accentuated violet shades. Its aromas remind you of sweet plums, mint and spices, while to your appreciation it is soft with marked tannins and good volume.
